National Institute of Technology (NIT) are autonomous engineering institutes and were declared as institutes of national importance in 2007. The NIT Council is the regulatory body for all the NITs. Most of the NITs in India offer degree courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in various branches of Engineering, Architecture, Management and Science.
There are a total of 31 NITs in India and admission to B.Tech Programmes is managed through the JoSAA counselling process, based on AIR rank secured in JEE MAIN. NITs offers admission to M.Tech programmes based on the score obtained in GATE exam while seat allotment is managed through CCMT (Centralized Counseling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan/M.Des).
