Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur is among one of the thirty NITs in the country. It got deemed to be university status (under UGC) in June 2002. Earlier, VNIT Nagpur was known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE) and was set up in 1960. It was one of the 12 institutes chosen by the MHRD, Government of India for the BRICS Network University on behalf of India. VNIT Nagpur has also entered a partnership with IIT Bombay and College of Engineering in Pune for a research and development project in Biomedical engineering and technology centre incubation. The cost of this is roughly 39.4 crore.
